Harold
Ford Jr beats down Casper the Ghost
2004
Election Straight from Saturday Cartoons
Memphis
,
TN
-- April 13, 2006 --There’s
al
ways been stories of ghosts living in midtown and in old downtown warehouses
here in
Memphis
. The city is filled with t
al
es of souls from long ago that still inhabit the bluff city. Even politicians
get in the act. “Take my congressman, he ran basic
al
ly unopposed in both the democratic primary and in the gener
al
election in 2004. In that election cycle Mr. Ford raised $ 1.9*
million to be beat down "
Casper
the Ghost,” says Tom
Guleff
.
There were no reported
Casper
sightings, but he must have been a re
al
threat with
al
l the money raised. In the end,
Harold Ford, Jr. was rewarded in his efforts and squeaked in a victory by a
margin of 82%. Where did
al
l this lobbyist money come from? And where did
al
l the money go in that Saturday cartoon race?
No matter if you are a Republican, Democrat or an Independent, it’s
al
ways hard to find solutions to tough issues involving community policing,
recruiting businesses to come to our city, strengthening early childhood
development programs like Head Start, and helping people out of the cycle of
poverty. It's even harder when you spend your days fundraising $1.9 million
dollars to beat invisible opponents. “You have to wonder if Jake Ford has met
the same ghost opponent?” asks Tom
Guleff
.
Voters of the 9th District are beginning to ask, “Why are
candidates so busy raising and spending money on their campaign?
They need to be working on solving the problems in our district.” Tom
Guleff
has been running hard and fast against the status quo.
