The Fork in the Road

Bribe vs Contribution

Memphis ,TN -- June 5, 2006 -- We are asking, what constitutes a bribe versus a political contribution?  Lawmakers will argue that the money must beget a favor or an attempt to favor or influence. In our minds, the mere exchange of money is a simple transaction of influence.

In the aftermath of the Tennessee Waltz Scandal, the Abramoff Lobbying Scandal, and Representative Cunningham of San Diego taking bribes worth $2.6 million, our congressional candidates are going down a dangerous path in their bid for the open seat in the 9th district. Their quest for cash is unseemly. The candidates appear to be tone deaf to the Tennessee Waltz investigation and indictments.

Where there's money, there's interests.  When the two are tied, it becomes tougher to find meaningful solutions to problems and ch al lenges. The next generation of politicans are starting where the old ones left off. These folks have "no chance" in changing the status quo. Why would they? They had a choice, just like our campaign did in January. But, they refused the harder right, and chose the easier wrong in this particular race. They have nothing new to offer the voters. Every campaign made a conscious decision to play by the old rules, except for one: Tom Guleff , who will not take campaign contributions or be influenced by money peddlers.

At the root of most corruption cases, there's always a plea of business as usual. We are not advocating the abolishment of political contributions. But, we believe a candidate in this race must be sensitive to the corrupting influence of money as seen in the past year.

The voters are being offered a fresh and new approach in politics. Our campaign is taking no bribes or political contributions. We've made it easy for the voter to identify the candidate whose focus is not on fundraising but rather on them.

Today, no other candidate in this race has enough courage to hold this position. Where there is courage, there is leadership. Please visit our website at www.tomguleff.com
