Greg
Duckett Must Resign
Even
Dead Voters Agree
Memphis, TN -- May 6, 2006 --Tom
Guleff, Republican candidate for the 9th Congressional District, has called for
the immediate resignation of Greg Duckett, Chairman of the Shelby County
Election Commission. "We've seen enough. These issues involving our free
and fair election process hurts all of us: Democrats, Independents, and
Republicans,” says Tom. State law
requires county election commissions to purge deceased voters from registration
rolls, yet hundreds of deceased citizens -- some famous, some ordinary, some who
died decades ago -- remain on Shelby County's rolls, an investigation by The
Commercial Appeal found.
“We must start
holding people accountable in public office. This is not the type of leadership
that we can tolerate any longer. As a candidate for public office, I have no
confidence that the election process in
Shelby
County
has the integrity required for a fair election. The current process cannot be
trusted,” states Tom Guleff. When people lose faith in the election process,
they lose faith in their city. Outsiders
looking to spend money and investment capital read in national newspapers about
a county that can’t poll a fair election and turn their open wallets to other
parts of
Tennessee
.
Our
campaign vision for
Memphis
to become the shining city on the bluff (that attracts t
al
ent and investment) is thwarted by this ineptness. This is not the image that we
desire for our great city. We demand a change. The change begins with Mr.
Duckett stepping down from his position as Shelby
County Election Commission Chairman.
Let's move forward with a new vision. Follow
