Web log

14 August Monday

We will be launching www.JoeCitizens.com in the next few weeks. This site is dedicated to giving citizens tools to improve their community. The little things make all the difference in the world. If you'd like us to discuss our site with your group or club, just call me at (Tom) 246-5123.

10 August Thursday

We will be launching a website (soon) for the regular "Joe Citizen". Should be exciting. Of course it will have a very local flavor. We will announce on this blog, when it is up and running. If you'd like to work on our next campaign (if we run again) drop us a line.

9 August Wednesday

We are keeping the site up. We're thinking about the future. Interesting...

8 August Tuesday

Yes, we really ran our campaign without taking money from anyone. I guess that wasn't clear in our bid for the seat. Pretty cool run.

7 August Monday

Picked up remaining campaign campaign signs around town. If you want an old sign, just e-mail me.

5 August  Saturday

What a week !!!

4 August Friday

We finished in second place out of 5 candidates. I wanted to demand a recount, but I couldn't afford to tear the party into two pieces. Just kidding.......

3 August Thursday

Congrats to Mark White.

I can tell you, we really wanted to get to the General Election. We had a lot of fun, and met some great people along the way. I say this because these people were Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. These folks were very kind to me and my family. My supporters were the best, I just wish we had a better candidate :) . We'll regroup, and think about the future, and continue to support the community.

Memphis, Thanks......

25 July Tuesday

Attended MPACT  "Meet and Greet" at the Central Library. I can tell you, most candidates have a pretty good sense of humor. Not sure why they don't use it more often. I guess, you can run the risk of not being serious enough. If a candidate has a background of serious achievements, they shouldn't be afraid to show that part of themselves.....

18 July Tuesday

Released make-over advice for my new friend Steve Cohen. Oprah show is next.

16 July Sunday

Nice endorsement from the Commercial Appeal for our team

5 July Wednesday

Read Jackson Baker's comments on the Republican field. I liked it. But then again I like our press releases. Funny how that works out.

4 July Tuesday

Saw Steve Cohen at the Central Gardens 4th of July Parade. He looks older in person. Politics is hard on the soul. He looks very serious, I wonder what he would be like to run against him. It seems like a lot of people know him.

3 July Monday

If you need a yard sign, give us a call at 246-5123. It's the one with the elephant on it.

2 July  Sunday

Good day at St Peters picnic, lots of candidates.

26 June Monday

The race is heating up, 3 August is just around the corner

23 June Friday

Campaign signs going up everywhere, if you need one, just e-mail us.

18 June Sunday

Dad's day. I am headed to OUTBACK........

15 June Friday

Lots of e-mails and phone calls. We really appreciate the support, it is really exciting. Hope I get my kid's vote.

14 June Tuesday

Spoke to Young Republican club. Thanks for the e-vite.

10 June Saturday.

Saw CARS today at the movies. I think NASCAR fans will get a kick out of this one. Good family movie

8 June Thursday

I miss Survivor....

7 June Wednesday

Attended educational seminar at the Civil Rights Museum. Very good program

5 June Monday

The start of another week. Great work by friends in helping with the campaign

3 June Saturday

Great food at the Italian Fest - Thanks to Steve Hellen and Family for feeding me.

1 June Thursday

Getting lots of phone calls from old friends helping in any way they can. Keep'em coming.

28  May  Sunday

Waded in the Memphis Zoo Nile with all the other kids in the evening.

26  May  Friday

Still working on everything concerning the break-in that occurred on Tuesday. It certainly seems that crime is out of control. Our city can't let this continue to drag it to the bottom. Something has to change soon.

20  May  Saturday

No rain. I need to cut my grass. I wonder if there's a Congressman that still does yard work ????

19  May  Friday

I liked the Press Release on Paypal-ing your candidate. Money may not grow on trees, but someone is always running a scam on the internet. I think Howard Dean was the guy who really cashed in big on the net, but he ran through the cash so quick. I always liked his "yell".

17  May  Wednesday

American Idol. I can't wait for the tour to come through Memphis. I may have to get front row tickets.

14  May  Sunday

Happy Mother's Day. 3 hours of Survivor, you can't beat that.

12 May  Friday

Went to the the Greek Festival with a very good friend, Mr George Makris. I had the chicken. Saw Bill Whitman there, and wished him luck.

11 May  Thursday

Survivor, my money is on Terry.

9 May  Tuesday

Two more voters met us at Danver's (midtown). I had the cheeseburger with a salad. Easy on the ranch dressing.

8 May  Monday

I need Survivor.  I missed the last episode. But don't worry I have my sources. I also missed the American Idols at Graceland. I can't go much longer like this.

7 May  Sunday

It will be fun watching everybody trying to outspend one another for the primary. Watch out for tons of bill board ads and tv commercials telling people what the candidate will or won't do. This will be fun.

5 May  Friday

Lots of talk about our election process this week.

3 May  Wednesday

Joe Cooper's signs are still up. Maybe they should be like Christmas lights, just keep them up till next time.

2 May  Tuesday

Joe Cooper should demand a recount.

1 May  Monday

Hey, another month closer to the August election.

30 April  Sunday

Commercial Appeal just discovered that there is something wrong with our voting process according to its Sunday paper.

29 April  Saturday

Good amount of rain. May flowers are on their way

28 April  Friday

Good reception at the teacher's union. We have to improve in this area if we are going to move Memphis forward. This and crime are tough on our city.

26 April  Wednesday

Early voting seems to be very slow for local.

25 April  Tuesday

Spoke at the MPACT "Meet the Candidate" meeting at Central Library. Mostly Dems, but a few Republicans got their chance at the mike. More candidates than voters. Some very good speakers with passionate words.

22 April  Saturday

Lots of political signs going up everywhere. It is battle over space and time.

21 April  Friday

Thad, dude....3 women ??? And they all want child support....I love Memphis! Colletta's pizza for dinner, the Parkway location. It's close to home

20 April  Thursday

I feel for Bruce from Survivor, I thought for a second he was running for office.

17 April  Monday

Working and campaigning, I hope the weekend makes it here in one piece.

16 April  Sunday

Easter Egg Hunt at friend's home. Lots of children. Lots of eggs and candy. Lots to be very thankful for.........

15 April  Saturday

Another great day of campaigning. Good reception from everyone.

14 April  Friday    We are Campaigning hard in neighborhoods, today. I wonder if Jake and Harold Jr. talk about strategy???

13 April  Thursday  There's some good folks running for office in May that need your support. Karla Templeton is one of those that needs your vote, she'll work hard for the community. She's straight up

12 April  Wednesday

NO WAY, Jake Ford an Independent ???? Get ready Jake, there be no free ride in the primary............

11 April  Tuesday

Jake Ford seems to be an independent Democrat ????

10 April  Monday

Jake Ford seems to be an independent ????

9 April  Sunday

A day of rest, great weather.

8 April  Saturday

Campaign School. Great class !!!!  A must for those thinking about the venture, but can't get off the couch. Stay on the couch.....

7 April  Friday

A new Ford in the race, his name is Independent Jake. What happened to Joe Jr? Seems to be a vote of no confidence from somewhere, surely not from us.

6 April  Thursday

Boy this place is crowded. Lots of people still in the race. I wonder if the democrats will keep everyone on the ballot. May need extra paper.

5 April  Wednesday

Went to Big Foot Lodge for dinner. Must have a new cook, the food was better last time out. That's a huge 50 lb burger that they serve, I don't think I'll try that any time soon.

3 April  Monday

Lots of good e-mails. All candidates must have their signed petitions in by Thursday at noon. The fun should really start then. This will be for the August '06 primary.

2 April  Sunday

This website continues to get more and more visits. Trend line surpasses all expectations. If you haven't told someone of our website, put it (insert) in an e-mail. You never know who it may touch.

1 April  Saturday

Good day of campaigning. Good reception from a lot of folks. Many had heard of our grass roots efforts. Meet an old boy scout leader from Troop 97. I believe they started back in the forties. This guy was a relic. He knew about Camp Kia Kima, Currier, Jamboree at Penal Farm, etc.

31 March Friday

March went by quick, may some good gains in the campaign. We need everyone to keep it up.

29 March Wednesday

Press Releases are doing well, starting to get in the meat of some issues, especially around anti-corruption measures.

28 March Tuesday

Did 1 hour long program on talk show answering questions. This was a great experience, hopefully we be on again.

26 March Sunday

Classmates from school are willing helping BIG in our campaign. Never forget these folks. They knew you when you had projects and homework due, and I hated homework......

25 March Saturday

Campaigned in East Memphis, this weekend. But, the Tigers lost, not sure I can go on with the race.

23 March Thursday

I can go back to campaigning Memphis Tigers won !!!!!!

22 March Wednesday

We need our volunteers to check the blog page as often as possible. You folks know the codeword, to blitz your assigned wards or areas. (Especially prior to press release or an event) If you need more material for the push packets, please advise through e-mail. Keep hitting the neighborhoods, you folks are doing great. I am so proud of your work.

21 March Tuesday

Got lots of good comments on Why Congress. That piece was written by me. Most of the press releases are finalized by my staff, but Why Congress came from my heart. This I believe.

16,17,18,19 March Thursday - Sunday

This is not good for my campaign. Too much college basketball, the campaign has suffered. I can't focus. However Memphis is in the Sweet 16, I think they look good. Digger go back to South Bend.

15 March Wednesday-

Waiting for basketball to start.....I wonder if Joe Ford Jr. is cheering for UCLA.

14 March Tuesday-

We are waiting on a response from Joe Ford Jr on his position on term limits. I've pledge to max of three terms (6 years). We are interested in his position.

13 March Monday-

Press release on "petition signed", I thought it was very well done. Great job staff. You can't run for Congress by yourself, you have to have great volunteers, people that are smarter than the candidate. I've surrounded myself with these types.

12 March Sunday -

Attended Founders Day luncheon, great folks. Great job to Col. Scott, Terry, and Andres.

10-11 March  Friday & Saturday

Eating BBQ at political functions. Nice sign on Union Avenue for our campaign. Great folks helping on the hand painted sign, nice touch.

6 March Monday

Good play by Rock103 on our campaign releases. I still have no idea where Joe is. They are important to us. Guys, keep it rolling.

5 March Sunday

My wife took me out to buy a gray suit today. Suits are expensive, which I found out. Tigers need to stay steady for number 1 seed. Drive to the hoop.

 4 March Saturday

Campaigning in SE corner of the district. Door to Door is the hardest part of campaigning. Lots of time and lots of walking.

3 March Fry day

Fish Fry at Saint Mary's. Thanks Hoa. They were very kind to me. Lots of shaking hands, I hope they vote for me. Fish was great. Second oldest church in Memphis.

2 March Thursday

Dropped in on our U of M republicans. Great Guys - John & Andrew. I enjoyed the time, but I missed Survivor and American Idol. I have to get my priorities straight.

1 March Wednesday

Another month end. For all you accountants and warehouse folks, I feel for you. Month end is never fun, trying to balance inventories and everything. Good luck. There's another one in 30 days.

28 February Tuesday

I missed another episode of American Idol, because of a political club meeting. I have to get my priorities straight.

27 February Monday

Still No call from Joe Ford Jr . I am worried sick. I don't want him to walk from the airport or take a cab, he might get lost.

26 February Sunday

No call from Joe Ford Jr yet, I am getting worried. Maybe bad weather in LA I better check my cell phone to see if he left any messages.

25 February Saturday

Lots of time spent campaigning. Waiting on a call to pick-up Joe Ford Jr from the airport. I hope he calls.

22 February Wednesday

I didn't realize, how many people I know , I have everyone of them helping with the campaign. I never anticipated the excitement generated about fighting hard against the status quo. We must have hit a chord, or found folks that are just sick & tired of it al l. I hope I won't let them down.

21 February Tuesday

I love American Idol, go ahead make the jokes. I am like everybody, I am a profession al judge. Some of these singers are "pitchy". I have no idea what that means.  Once again , I love the drama of it al l.....vote early, vote often. I need Paula as a campaign manager.

20 February Monday

We put a map of the 9th district on the site, hopefully that helps.....take a second and send our website to someone in the district. Dig deep, check your e-mail address book.

19 Feb Sunday

Still cold in Memphis from the ice fall. My wife cooked french toast for breakfast. She is an excellent cook. Me on the other hand, I burn kool-aid. Working today on push packets for our volunteers. We have a good organization, hopefully it will weather the storm in the coming months. I believe it will, they are not - the faint of heart. I've warned them all, but I still can't get rid of them. You gotta love every last one of them.

18 Feb Saturday

We are getting an incredible amount of hits on the website. (The folks that keep your website on the web, gives you the information, free) Much more than we anticipated this early in the campaign.

17 Feb Friday

I am surprised that people are reading this blog. I know, because several people commented on a spelling error. Hey , I am thankful that they are paying attention. I usually end up transferring these comments from my PDA.  Well, that sounded high tech......

16 Feb  Thursday

Attended Young Republican function at the Fox and Hound this evening. There used to a BBQ place there a long time ago. I love BBQ, but ribs are getting so expensive. Darn, I missed Survivor.

However, my wife gave me the low down when I got home.

15 Aug  Wednesday

Released from Jury Duty today.  Mr Carson, the jury commissioner, has a tough job, its the closest thing I've seen to herding cats. He does a good job at it.  Reminds me of NCO in the Army.

13 Feb 2006 Monday

Attended Jury Duty today. I've been a registered voter forever, but this is the first time I've ever served.  My name must have come up when I was in the Army.

11 Feb 2006 Saturday

Campaigned at the Central Library this afternoon. Hitting the pavement and the books. I love the library. Come to find out, most people are not sure what district they are in. District 9, I hope....here's my card.

9 Feb 2006

Watching Survivor and working. Is the drama real or what?

7 Feb 2006

Attended the Conservative Republican meeting at 7:00 pm. Very lively crowd. They were concerned about the country.

5 Feb 2006

Super Bowl weekend. I love sports, especially the nonsense of trash talking, especially when no one really knows what team is going to win. I love the drama of it all. The will to win can be be painful. Pass the wings....

4 Feb 2006

Pretty cold in Memphis, worked on organizing and on the phone with strategy folks. Got to make it sound important !!! Anyway, finalizing content for web site. I love computer geeks, I hope they vote.....

3 Feb 2006 Friday

Attended the Lincoln Gala where I met several folks that are deep into politics. Many run websites and organizations. Haley Barbour spoke as the guest speaker. I remember 20 years ago seeing him on television. Now he's governor of Mississippi.
